The 2010 Winter Olympic Games Homeschool Style

So how fun that the 2010 Winter Olympics are just across our border in Vancouver? Lot's of buzz and excitement. The boys are very interested in the games for that reason and they have a Wii winter Olympic game.

We are so blessed to be part of a great group of homeschoolers. We meet for gym class every Friday. There are about 25 kids. The mom's are dedicated and so creative. So this gym class we did the Winter Olympic Games...indoors but totally cool. They tried the skeleton, curling, cross country skiing, ski jump, and snowboarding. Check out the awesome pics and the video of the parade of nations at the bottom. Next week more events and the closing ceremony with medals.


Right up the street there is a little museum with lots of Olympic memorabilia. It was so fun to check out the pictures and of course to buy some souvenirs.

Isaiah and Elijah both wanted to represent the USA. Other kids choose other countries like Greece, Brazil, and Sweden. They were asked to bring in flags, wear country colors and also bring a mascot.

My dear sweet Hannah is all worn out and fell asleep. She was such a good baby. She laughed and cheered until she was all cheered out.

Jump Jump Jump Everybody Jump

She has so many contraptions but this is by far her favorite. She loves to get herself jumping and laughing. She is growing so fast. She's my super baby. It is amazing to me how much she is learning and developing. I joke with the boys when they are doing school that Hannah is doing her learning too, but she really is, from rolling over, to all her coos and squeals, to grabbing her feet and putting them in her mouth and even "swimming" in the tub with Mom, in just four short months she has changed so much. Last night I was watching her sleep and overcome with emotion realizing that just yesterday Elijah was that small, and Isaiah was that small. I could not resist going into their room to tell them how much I loved them and how amazed I am at the little men they are becoming. It is all happening so fast. I want to savor each stage of each one of these little people God has blessed me with.

Outside my window… Very dark, but what an amazing winter we have had, if you can call it winter...50 degree temps with sunshine. Nope don't miss the harsh Maine winter at all

I am thinking… how I need to organize the boys clothes in their dressers
I am thankful for… my new friends here in Washington, the Lord has truly blessed me!
I am wearing… nursing pj's I got from Christmas. I love them, so easy at night
I am going… to enjoy staying home with my kids
I am reading… Reading Matthew in my Bible ,and reading "Practical theology for Women"

From the Desk of Isaiah and Elijah

Another week of school under our belts...our 100th day is coming in 2 weeks. I always feel like we've accomplished so much when we get to 100 days. I need to start thinking of something fun to celebrate. Anyway this week in science we have been learning about the Continental drift and plate movements.

Here the kids cut out the 7 continents and then tried to piece them together like a puzzle...not bad!

Graham crackers and peanut butter equals edible science. Here the peanut butter represented magma under the surface of the earth and the graham crackers were the plates the shift. We observed the three ways they can shift and what that does to the magma...the best part of course was eating the results.

In History we are learning about Benjamin Franklin. He used to carry around a little notebook with rules he wanted to live by. He focused on one rule a day and tried to master each rule. So the boys were asked to write 5 rules they think they should live by. Here is what they wrote:

Isaiah

1.Do not play video games too much

2. Pray to God everyday

3. Be nice to others

4. Do not rot your brain

5. Do not fight with your brother he is your friend for life (don't fight with others)

Elijah

1. Do not play the Wii too much

2. Do not fool around ( think he meant in the house lol)

3. Do not fall off your chair when you are doing school

4.Do not fight with your brother

5.Do not go to sleep mad or guilty
