Homeschool Fine Arts Showcase

So if doing the Winter Olympics and a Valentine's day party wasn't enough our homeschoolers did one more thing today. They participated in a "Fine Arts Showcase". Basically the kids were encouraged to share something with the group pertaining to the arts. Some kids played the violin, some played the piano, one child read an original story, and many like Isaiah and Elijah showed an art piece. It was really amazing first to see all the creativity but second to watch the other kids be so attentive and so gracious as each kid presented their work.

Elijah telling how he made his "Heart Love" painting made with oil pastels and water color paints. He did so good explaining each step

Isaiah decided to show a piece he did last year because it's "his favorite" His piece is entitled "Splatter Fun" inspired by Pollock's painting "Lavender Mist"

The group listening to a story.

Ok I couldn't resist these cuties...they just wanted to dress up and they were adorable. I thought "a picture of things to come with Hannah Bear"

Valentine's Day Party

Again I can not express how blessed we are to have such a great group of fellow homeschoolers here. It was one of my fears in moving that we would loose that connection, but God has provided again. After our amazing gym class we had a Valentine's Day lunch and card exchange. The food was great, the fellowship was sweet and the card exchange was darling.

I let the kids choose what they wanted to make for their valentines. Elijah chose to make play dough and then cut it out in the shape of a heart. We got the recipe from FamilyFun and it is a great recipe. Then we put them in baggies with a simple card attached. Isaiah chose to give paper airplanes with the instructions how to fold them also from FamilyFun. We rolled them up and attached a card that read "you're just 'plane' awesome" They were super cute.
The kids each had a bag and they had so much fun "delivering" their valentines to their friends. They got some really creative cards and giggled all the way home reading them.

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games Homeschool Style

So how fun that the 2010 Winter Olympics are just across our border in Vancouver? Lot's of buzz and excitement. The boys are very interested in the games for that reason and they have a Wii winter Olympic game.

We are so blessed to be part of a great group of homeschoolers. We meet for gym class every Friday. There are about 25 kids. The mom's are dedicated and so creative. So this gym class we did the Winter Olympic Games...indoors but totally cool. They tried the skeleton, curling, cross country skiing, ski jump, and snowboarding. Check out the awesome pics and the video of the parade of nations at the bottom. Next week more events and the closing ceremony with medals.

Right up the street there is a little museum with lots of Olympic memorabilia. It was so fun to check out the pictures and of course to buy some souvenirs.

Isaiah and Elijah both wanted to represent the USA. Other kids choose other countries like Greece, Brazil, and Sweden. They were asked to bring in flags, wear country colors and also bring a mascot.

Here is the Parade of Nations at our opening ceremony.

My dear sweet Hannah is all worn out and fell asleep. She was such a good baby. She laughed and cheered until she was all cheered out.

Elijah sharing why he chose the USA and about his mascot a black lab.

Isaiah doing the same but his mascot was a brown bear.

The whole crew!!

The torch rely of course. Go Elijah go!

Bring it home Isaiah!

New Friends good times!

Elijah trying the skeleton!

Isaiah trying out the cross country skies...not as easy as it looked!

Thumbs up before trying "snowboarding"aka skateboarding

Jump Jump Jump Everybody Jump

She has so many contraptions but this is by far her favorite. She loves to get herself jumping and laughing. She is growing so fast. She's my super baby. It is amazing to me how much she is learning and developing. I joke with the boys when they are doing school that Hannah is doing her learning too, but she really is, from rolling over, to all her coos and squeals, to grabbing her feet and putting them in her mouth and even "swimming" in the tub with Mom, in just four short months she has changed so much. Last night I was watching her sleep and overcome with emotion realizing that just yesterday Elijah was that small, and Isaiah was that small. I could not resist going into their room to tell them how much I loved them and how amazed I am at the little men they are becoming. It is all happening so fast. I want to savor each stage of each one of these little people God has blessed me with.
